Scope

The Command & Control Systems (C2S) Group is seeking an experienced Sr. System Administrator to support the 4th Signal Center (Theater) residing in primary locations at Hawaii & Alaska USA and Okinawa, Japan as part of the Pacific-Theater Network Operations Security Center (PAC-TNOSC).   The Sr. System Administrator will be part of the computer network defense (CND) and security services team that will ensure the availability, integrity and confidentiality of the information and systems used in planning, coordinating, directing, controlling, and sustaining military forces.


The Sr. System Administrator shall be responsible for maintaining the resources of file and storage systems, security and data integrity, and control procedures for a complex system of networked computers or for a single group of microcomputers linked to a host workstation, or mainframe.  The candidate will manage and monitor user accounts password, resources, backs up files as required and works with management to define requests for information, in addition to maintaining and updating system security plans on all platforms. Working closely with other IT staff members, the Sr. System Administrator will identify, diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex and difficult network related issues within the 4th Signal Center for the Pacific-Theater Network Operation and Security Center.

 

General Duties

Direct operational responsibility to:

  • Perform day-to-day operation of computer networks, hardware/software support, system backups, training, and special projects
  • Monitor e-mail servers, user accounts, password, database, applications, and user resources to ensure the efficiency of the system
  • Provide training and support to all end-users
  • Create and maintain user accounts, system access security, and data integrity to ensure safeguarding and sharing of enterprise data
  • Perform installation/configuration, and maintenance of Operating Systems, application software, hardware and related infrastructure
  • Monitor network security, stability and performance, and manage Top Level Architecture (TLA) configurations - ensuring 24x7 operations and resolving service impacts as they occur
  • Respond, identify, troubleshoot, and isolate, the determination and resolution of significant problem events through the use of management tools, test equipment and/or the diagnostic capabilities of firewalls, routers, and switches
  • Evaluate, implement, and support infrastructure of hardware, software applications, and related products for an ever-expanding business
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented networks, wiring diagrams, support log, software applications and hardware baselines
  • Perform daily or regular scheduled backup operation of file systems or special project data to the appropriate recovery mediums such as tapes, disks, and CD/DVD
  • Ability to manage and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation
Required Qualifications
  • Must have 5+ years of experience in Systems Administration
  • Must have 3+ years of experience and certifications in one of the following areas –
    • Remedy Skilled Professional (RSP)
    • Antivirus software with at least one of the following certifications:  Security+, Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC), CISSP, Symantec Professional Certification, or McAfee Security Certification
    • Enterprise Systems Management (Altiris, ArcSight, SCCM, SCOM, Hercules, etc) experience with at least one certification in ESM area such as: MCP for SCCM and SCOM, ArcSight Certified Advanced Security Analyst (ACASA), or ArcSight Certified Advanced Integrator/Admin (ACAIA), Altiris Security Administrator, etc. 
    • Unix Analyst as a SUN Certified System Administrator for The Solaris Operating Systems
  • Must have experience in HBSS:  Host Based Security System, Senior Administrator and SQL Database Management
  • Must have experiences on wide array of server grade applications include Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange Server, DNS, SMTP, IIS, Apache, SharePoint, Active Directory, Identity Management, Patch Management, LDAP, and security products such as virus scan
  • Must have experience with a wide variety of computer applications and operating systems in a mixed Solaris, Linux and Microsoft Network Operating System infrastructure
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of Cisco Routers and Switches
  • High level of experience implementing and administrating common TCP/IP-based services, including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, OSPF, VPN, IPSEC etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot a wide array of system, networking, software, and hardware problems
  • Must possess exceptional teaming skills and will have extensive experience working with senior customers.
  • Ability to work on computer for long period and communicate with end-users by phone, e-mail, or in-person
  • Must possess an active Secret Clearance
  • Must meet overseas medical deployment qualifications

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION (INCLUDING MAJOR)

  • Strong academic background with Bachelor of Science/Arts Degree in Engineering or Computer Science or Science or Mathematics (or equivalent work experience)
Desired Qualifications
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification (LSS), ISO-IEC Certification for Information Technology Service Management or equivalent experience is preferred
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast paced environment with short timelines
  • Ability to maintain a professional and courteous manner in difficult situations
  • Ability to maintain high quality work to work in multiple projects
  • Ability to perform and participate in a team oriented environment
