Information Assurance Engineer  

 

Scope

The Information Assurance (IA) Engineer requires technical expertise in the areas of design, architecture, development, testing and integration oversight and technical support for information network security engineering. The candidate must be capable of supporting the integration of IA solutions and technologies into networks with particular attention to protocols, interfaces, and network design. . The role is required to monitor, audit, and remediate security features on the network including (but not limited to); firewalls, content engines, intrusion detection systems, transmission monitor systems, switches, routers, and any other network equipment.

Responsibilities

The candidate will be involved in IA activities and must have the capability to:
• Implement the IA program to ensure the AEI is operational and secure.
• Comply with and implement policy received from the appropriate network security manager or the IAM.
• Document, maintain, and conduct periodic reviews of the network architecture for vulnerability assessments.
• Ensure measures and procedures used at network nodes support the security integrity of the network and comply with applicable directives.
• Develop, issue, and implement security procedures and protocols governing network operations per this regulation.
• Prepare, disseminate, and maintain plans, instructions, and standing operating procedures (SOPs) concerning network security.
• Conduct reviews of network threats and vulnerabilities per this regulation and the IAVM process.
• Report security violations and incidents to the servicing RCERT in accordance with Section VIII, Incident and Intrusion Reporting.
• Review and evaluate the effects on security of changes to the network, including interfaces with other networks.
• Perform authorized monitoring of network resources per this regulation.
• Ensure the use of Army approved IA products per this regulation and AR 380–53.
• Implement IA and IAVM reporting and compliance procedures.
• Review and maintain network audit data.
• Ensure adequate network connectivity by making proper decisions concerning levels of confidentiality and robustness for the system.

Required Qualifications

• Active Secret clearance
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical experience
• Five+ years experience in Network security and engineering. Experience based knowledge of security and IA engineering is a requirement
• DoD IA Level II certified
• Familiar with DoD standards for guiding the development of IA policy, requirements, integration, engineering and certification and accreditation
• Proven ability to perform vulnerability/risk analyses of computer systems and applications during all phases of the network life cycle
• Knowledgeable of the DITSCAP process
• Meet overseas medical deployment qualifications
• GSEC,SCNP,SSCP and SECURITY + certified

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with the NIPR, SIPR or CENTRIXS certification process
• CISSP, CCSP, CISA, MCSE, and/or CCNA are a plus
• Excellent customer service skills and demeanor, both on the phone and in-person
• Ability to maintain a professional and courteous manner in difficult situations
• Demonstrated self-starter and ability to independently resolve problems
• Ability to perform effectively in a fast paced environment
• Ability to maintain high quality work and manage multiple critical projects
• Ability to perform effectively in a team oriented environment
• Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of customers
